Meet the Family

Millar family, owners of Treehouse Cupcakes and Frozen Treats in Athens, TX

We’re the Millars, a passionate local family whipping up delicious treats for you in Athens, TX.

Treehouse Cupcakes and Frozen Treats came from our heart — our kids. When our kids wanted to spruce up our old treehouse, they decided to sell cupcakes to earn the money. Mom (our creative and generous Stephanie) helped… and discovered a passion

Before long, a backyard fundraiser turned into a bustling cottage bakery. With too many birthday parties and weddings for our home kitchen to handle, we opened our first storefront in 2018 and a second in 2021. Now we get to welcome East Texas families into a shop with delicious cupcakes, refreshing frozen yogurt, rich coffee, savory food, and more.

We love bringing ideas to life, giving back to our community, doing quality work, and treating people to an experience.

Our business was built on family, and we want your family to feel at home here. We want to help you celebrate your milestone events and sweet little moments. We’ve been through enough to know that each moment is worth cherishing, and there’s no substitute for having someone be there for you.

We’re here for you, East Texas. How can we help you savor today?

About Our Local Partnerships

We also want you to know who we work with and why. We’ve chosen to partner with several amazing local businesses to bring you the highest quality food and drinks.

State 28 Farm

For starters, those grab-and-go boxes that look like edible art? The ones with the vibrant, crisp greens that are not from a grocery store bag? They’re here thanks to State 28 Farm. State 28 Farm is a family team of East Texas farmers who nourish their crops naturally. Which means you get fresh, organic, grown-with-love produce packed with nutrition.

Van Zandt Coffee Co.

Then that strong, earthy fragrance when you step into the shop – it’s courtesy of Van Zandt Coffee Co. Led by a decorated veteran, they roast Central and South American coffee beans with careful attention here in Athens, TX. So you get a brew that’s exotic, yet local, and undeniably flavorful.

We hope you’ll agree that coming together gives us all more to enjoy.

Here for the East Texas Community

We believe we’re meant to serve. To do our part. To bless others as we have been blessed. And there’s power in doing that together.

Our greatest joy is in bringing joy to others

Like in supporting local families of children fighting cancer. If you know our story, you know that’s close to our hearts. And we’re so thankful to work with our amazing Treehouse customers. Our “Go Gold” campaigns in September have blessed young cancer warriors. Your support gives them hope, Athens family.

And we love how area businesses give to our community heroes. We’ve had generous donors sponsor cupcakes for teachers and first responders. This generosity lets us just offer a small thanks to those who serve so big.

Our staff are always the brightest-eyed when they return from “Random Acts of Sweetness” missions. We may not be saving the world at scale, but a surprise cupcake on a tough day can mean the world to someone. Let’s never forget the small things.

We may invent a lot of cupcake flavors. But we’ll always hold to our values. We love God and love others. What a blessing it is to serve our East Texas community with you.

FAQs

If you were wondering…

“How can I order?”

If you want fresh menu items for pickup or delivery ASAP, order here. For event catering or custom bakery orders, please inquire here.

“Do you have places to sit?”

Yes! Come and stay awhile. At our bakery location, we have indoor cafe seating and an outdoor patio to enjoy.

“Do you deliver? What does delivery cost?”

We’re happy to deliver. We deliver orders within Athens Loop 7 for a $5.00 fee. Please ask about further delivery when you inquire.

“Can I order to-go and pick it up in the store?”

Certainly! Order from our menu here and pick it up at the location you requested. We’ll have your coffee, brunch, and cupcake waiting for you. (Pro tip: Everybody’s favorite coworker is the one who brings enough to share.)

“What’s the difference between your two locations?”

The Cain Center location is a walk-up window within the local YMCA activity building. It’s super convenient if you’re swimming, playing tennis, walking the trails, or attending an event on site. Try your new go-to for fresh brunch items and warm soups.

The bakery location is where most of the sweet magic begins. It’s also where you can get self-serve frozen yogurt and house specialties like cake shakes. That grab-and-go fridge holds tasty meals here, too. Enjoy your indulgence at our cafe seating and outdoor patio.

“When are you open?”

We’d love to see you at either location!

Come on into the bakery

“How do I know what your daily or weekly specials are?”

We love to post these on social media, but to hear about them first, you’ll want to sign up for our emails. Subscribe here to be a Treehouse VIP!

“Do you have gluten-free, dairy-free, and nut-free options?”

We want everyone to have plenty to enjoy. Our baristas can make coffee drinks and smoothies for your needs – whether that’s light on sugar, vegan, or otherwise. We’ve made gluten-free cakes and cupcakes many times. Let us treat you – whatever your dietary needs may be!

“How can I find out about your seasonal specials?”

You’ll probably hear about them from happy customers, but to be the first to know, subscribe to our VIP emails.

“Do you still bake cookies?”

Oh yes. And we custom decorate cookies with our cookie printer. That means graduation photos, wedding monograms, business logos, and more – on scrumptious sugar cookies. Look out for seasonal designs in store, but we can’t wait to personalize delightful cookies just for you!

“Can I work for you?”

Can you? Check our “Join the Team” page to see: 1. If we’re a good fit for each other, and 2. How to apply.

“Why can’t you fulfill every event request?”

While we are passionate about baking wonderful events, we are limited. We’re a family-run bakery dedicated to giving quality to each customer we serve. Please request your event order ASAP so that we can give you the best.

“How much are your specialty cakes?”

We personalize every order for customers. So each price quote – like each cake – is individualized. Please inquire so that we can design your dream cake together.

“How can I reserve your coffee cart or food truck?”

It’s as fun as it sounds. Please submit your inquiry here. If the cart or truck are available, we’d love to join your party!

“Are you kid-friendly?”

We love kids! Our grandkids are the actual bosses of our store. (You know how it is, families.) Kids love to pick their toppings, play games, and check out the treehouse decor. We want to be your family fun destination!

“Can you bake cakes and cupcakes in any flavor?”

If you have a flavor idea that you don’t see, please let us know when you inquire. We love to collaborate to create unique desserts for events!

“Will my date like your dessert?”

If he or she doesn’t like to eat tasty desserts, we don’t know what to tell you. They’re probably not the one. On the other hand, studies suggest that people who eat together, bond together, so… We hope to see you both soon!
